St. Joseph's N.S. received a second very welcome visit from Shane Long today. He was the guest of honour at our Open Afternoon. Shane was also responsible for officially raising our Green Flag. Everyone associated with the school would like to thank Shane for giving so generously of his time yet again. Shane posed for photographs and gave autographs and even delighted our young soccer players by joining them out on the field for a game. He even donated a signed training ball used by himself and such famous Irish players as Kevin Doyle, Stephen Hunt, and Noel Hunt.

The students of St Joseph's got a nice surprise when Irish International soccer star Shane Long dropped in to say hello on Thursday, June 19th. Accompanied by his mother Anne, Shane spent about an hour in the school answering questions and signing autographs. I'm sure Shane was impressed at how closely his career is being followed by his young fans and he was happy to answer the many informed and relevant questions he was asked. After signing some autographs and posing for some photos Shane was whisked down to the prefab to take in a drum recital performed by the students.
Before he left Shane very kindly left a pair of his boots and his signed Ireland v Colombia jersey for the school to raffle during our Open Evening. Thanks to Shane there was great demand for tickets and the raffle was a huge sucess. Sixth Class student Paul Butler was the envy of all when his ticket secured him the jersey whereas Mrs. Margaret Power by all accounts hasn't taken her new boots off yet!
