R.D.S., Jan '08

Activities > 2007/08

On the 10th of January 2nd. to 6th. went to the R.D.S. for the B.T. Young Scientist Exhibition. We left at around 7 o'clock and it took around two or two and a half hours to get up to Dublin. We we got there we went into the R.D.S. and saw loads of science projects. We got to go off in groups. We saw the smallest shark in the world and we to a 3D show about the planets.
Aimee Fahy (6th. Class)

We got lots of free stuff. I got pencils, sweets, lights and notepads. I was really tired when I came home. I told Mammy, Daddy and all my family about everything. I told them that I got to hold a big cockroach (but I had put a glove on). Mammy said 'Stop, I hate cockroaches.' She hates snakes, spiders, worms and especially rats and mice. I didn't tell her that I saw a lizard.
Sarah Hayes (4th. Class)

Some of my group signed up for this competition and won a memory band. Whoever won the whole competition got a Dell computer. The Exhibition was very good and everybody liked it.
Sarah Condon (6th. Class)

In January we went to the R.D.S. It was very good. We saw lots of things. We went into the robot show and then into the science show. There was lots of stuff there. There was a chip van, a cafe and loads of different products. We signed up to win a laptop and I won an orange wristband that you can plug into your computer and download stuff onto. Then you can carry it where ever you go.
Maryann Fitzpatrick (6th. Class)

I sat beside Sarah Hayes. On the way up we played Noughts and Crosses and also made up six different handshakes. It was great craic. We tried to get to sleep but it was so bumpy it was hard to do. Soon enough we were allowed to get something to eat. I had two oranges and a Cheesestring. I had them scoffed down in one minute.
When we got there we crowded out of the bus and into our groups. While we were walking the short walk to the RDS we passed the Four Seasons Hotel. It was huge. Once we got in we all had to go to the bathroom. after that we decided to have a twenty minute look around. There was a Hazard House and Piano Dancer but my favourite thing was getting all the free stuff.
by Ciara McGovern (4th. Class)

I was up at the school at 20 to 7. It was spilling rain and it was cold. I waited in the car until more people came up to the school.
On the way up I played 'X's and 'O's and did some colouring. There was a lot of traffic. On the way I saw the Motorway Ball, the Red Cow Rounabout and also the Luas bridge.
By the time we got there it was after getting brighter. We had to wait for a really long time. When we got in it was jam packed. I could barely move that's how packed it was. I really mean it ...no lie!
At first we went around the exhibition in our groups. Then we went to see the robots and a polar bear. We saw a 3D Solar System and we went through -20C and it was freezing.
We got lots of free pens and pencils and notepads. It was brilliant and I really, really enjoyed myself.
The winner of the BT Young Scientist of the Year was Eimear Jones. She is only 13 years old and lives in Killarney, Co. Kerry. She is the youngest person ever to win it. I think that was great so a big thumbs up for Eimear Jones!
by Lisa Rice (4th. Class)
