Our students took full advantage of the proximity of the National Ploughing Championships and made the short journey across the border to Cuffesgrange to see what all the fuss was about.
I went to the ploughing. I went on Tuesday and Wednesday. I went with my daddy. I went for two full days. I got up early because the traffic was bad. We parked in the third field. We had to walk a lot. I saw puppies in a cage and some strange sheep. We got food from a chipper and it was tasty. I got a teddy, a balloon and a remote control aeroplane. I was not tired after it.
-Claire Egan, 2nd Class
I went to the Ploughing Match. It was class. I went on the first day. I went with my mammy and daddy. We were there from 8:30 to 6:00. We parked in the Green Car Park. I saw a robot from TV. He was singing, dancing, talking and crying and when he was squirting water he hit me. I saw an Olympic Gold medal.
-Jack Kealy, 3rd Class
This year the National Ploughing Championship was held in Cuffesgrange, Co. Kilkenny. There was a record crowd of 208,000 people there over the three days. I went on Wednesday. There were loads of people there and loads of tractors as well. I never saw any ploughing. It was a long walk but I wasn't tired. It wasn't mucky, it was dusty but the dust could be annoying. It was very good.
-Aiden Mullally, 3rd Class
The National Ploughing Championships were held in Cuffesgrange from September 23rd to 25th. I went with my mum, dad and brothers. I went for a full day. There wasn't that much traffic. I got up at around half eight. We parked about three fields away from it. We had to walk for ages and we had to carry cans for my uncle. We saw lots of tractors, the funfair and an army tank. We saw lots of tents. My uncle had a tent called 'Gleeson's Steel and Engineering'. We saw the Land Rovers going up ramps. There were lots of toy shops and cows and sheep. We saw some orange sheep. I was not that tired after it all.
-Maria McGrath, 3rd. Class
I went on Tuesday and Thursday. It was very big. There was a funfair there and I went on the Waltzers. They were fun. I got up on a tractor and a quad and I got to hold a hand gun in the army tent. I saw two army tanks. They were very big. I saw an aeroplane landing. They were selling hurleys, soccer balls and DVDs. I got a tractor book and a wristband and I got a hat for free. It was black. I sat into a car. It was very cool.
-Paul Clinton, 4th. Class
The National Ploughing Championships were held on Woodcock's farm in Cuffesgrange. I went all three days. A lot of people went from school. The traffic was horrific. There was one Garda at Ballyline and a lot of them at Ballymack Cross. We parked in 'Exhibitors' Parking' because a friend of Daddy gave us a ticket for it. We had not far to walk - only right across the road. We met a lot of people there. There was an Irish Aid tent where you did drumming and you got a free shirt. We saw a lot of people going around with orange snap rulers.
-Gerard O'Dwyer, 4th Class
