Leaving School

Curriculum > 2007/08 > Poems

It's a time of mixed emotions for our outgoing Sixth Class. The excitement of the next big step coupled the fear of the unknown. The regret of leaving old friends behind offset by the anticipation of making new ones. Here the class of 2008 express themselves through the medium of poetry.

Leaving School by Sarah Condon

I am happy to leave Primary School
But I also feel bad
I'll miss all my teachers
And I feel really bad

I like all my teachers
But sometimes they get mad
In the classroom
Or out on the yard.

Mrs. Noonan has Connacht Irish
But Mrs. Maher has rows about it!

I'm leaving school
On the 26th. of June
And that will be soon.

Leaving School by Maryann Fitzpatrick

I'm sad to be leaving school
Because I'm going to miss all my friends.

But I'm looking forward to doing new subjects
In my new school.

I'm looking forward to making new friends
And going on school trips.

Leaving School by Shane Cleere

I am looking forward
To going to secondary school
I had lots of fun here
And it was very cool

When I came to this school
There were tears.
When leaving this school
Fears were made real

School is school
And that is very uncool
I have six more years to do
So I may buy new shoes.

Primary School by Amy Perdue

I'm leaving Primary School
Which is very cool
But I don't want the extra homework
Or the longer days.

I've been here for eight years
Junior Infants all the way up to Sixth Class

But now I'm leaving here
I might even shed a tear
I've been here eight years long
And now it's gone...

Leaving School by Robert Horan

I'm looking forward
To leaving Primary School
And taking on the challenge
Of Secondary School

When coming to this school
Tears were shed
On leaving this school,
Hearts will be broken.

When I think back
On the good old days
The memories I have
Will certainly never leave.

My body may be gone away
But my heart here will stay
In St. Joseph's, Ballingarry.

End Of School Poem by Luke Britton

It's the end of school
And I'm happy to go
We had a good teacher
But I can't wait to go to Secondary School.

The holidays are coming
And I can't wait
I'm leaving Primary School
And I'll miss you all.

Moving To Ballingarry by Liam O'Brien

Even though I've only been here a while
I feel comfortable on Ballingarry soil
The first time I got on the bus
A boy talked to me as if to say 'you're one of us'
I feel attached to St. Joseph's school
And all it's funny little rules.
All the teachers were nice to me
I'm sad to be leaving and I'll miss all of ye.
But I think we made the right decision moving to Ballingarry.

Primary School by Paul Butler

Primary school...
The best years of my life
Or so I'm told.

The first day so daunting
So many new fears
Teachers and students
Will I ever know the names

Two weeks later
And it feels like home
Fun, games and many new friends
Learning the alphabet
Which is so much fun.

Eight years later
So much learnt
Older and wiser and time to move on
And would you believe...
...I feel so sad

Leaving School by Emma Clancy

Leaving Primary School
Has been far from boring
But an extra hour at Secondary?
I will be snoring!

I'll miss all my friends
In Fifth Class
Oh the years do go BYE
So fast.

Now that I'm twelve
And I'm moving on
A new door is opening
So ya bring it on!

So goodbye to all
In St Joseph's N.S.
I hope I'll be able
To handle the STRESS.

Leaving School by Miriam Walton

I'm happy to be leaving school
So I don't have to follow
My old school rules.

I can't wait to go to my new school
To make new friends.
I wonder what the teachers are like!

I can't wait for the new school subjects
Subjects like woodwork,
Home Ec and French.

The worst thing about my new school,
Longer days and a lot more homework
The best thing?
Longer Summer holidays!!!

School by William Ryan

I'm leaving school today
On the 15th of May
I had a great time
And hope we didn't cause too much crime.

School is school
But all the children rule
We started school in 2001
We knew it was school
But it was so uncool

Leaving School by Kayleigh Moore

I'm leaving school
And moving on
Primary school is almost gone

My teachers and friends I will miss
I wish Secondary School was something
I could skip.

New classrooms, new teachers
New friends and all
Sometimes I wonder
Will I like it at all.

But when I get there
I'm sure I'll find out
What Secondary School
Is all about.
